1st Semester Final Group Project

In this photo the model is sitting on the floor alongside a brick wall in a fairly shaded environment. The sunlight reflected on her hair giving her burgundy hair a more purple look.

My model Alondra was upset about sitting on the floor so i made her stare at the camera. I wanted to frame her face by the wall to emphasize the patterns in the background.

This photo was one of my most off guard shots because i told the model to fix her hair so i could capture her in a more natural state. 

In this photo Alondra noticed a blonde streak in her hair so i snap this shot where the light reflected off her hair.

Influential Portraits: Irving Penn

     Our group project was to take inspiring portraits influenced by the famous american photographer, Irving Penn. We chose to edit our pictures in all black and white just as he did. Irving Penn(1917-2009)
 

     Irving Penn was born in 1917 in Plainfield, New Jersey, and has become the main influence for our portraits. His fascinating and fashionable images took a large leap into a new stage of creative photography. The model's he uses usually pose in front of a bare background in a natural light. Penn's idea of getting to know the person by talking to them for an hour or more before he takes their picture has really proven to be a success on capturing the models in a normal state of character.

                                                    

    My group really enjoyed the portraits of some of our favorite celebrities. The models fashionable clothes and great lighting really help give life to the pictures. He turned a dull black and white image into something greater and for that he has accomplished what not many photographers can accomplish .

   3 Things I learned: 

1.) I learned that in order to make a successful Portrait I must try to use a reflective surface only because you can see yourself as your taking the picture just to have  a little fun with it. 

2.) Capture detailed shots that tell viewers a story about who you are through the use of different angles and fun positions. 

3.) Last but not least i learned that the choice of background you use can make a major difference in your picture so choose wisely and make sure it fits the various poses you'll make.

Bryan Farley's website critique

       Every photographer should have a well organized and artful website. Not just for the views of others, but to show their skills and inspire those who share the same dreams. One of the key qualities for a website is to express their inner thoughts through photography. For example, taking shots at various angles can define who you are as a person. If he/she takes pictures of someone alone in a picture all the time you can assume that photographer feels lonely at times. It all depends on your website so it is important to keep it live and get other attention. Our class chose our teacher, Bryan Farley's website as a reference to what should and should not be included in an excellent blog site.  

    Looking at his site as a first time viewer, i immediately was entranced by the first two close up shots that delivered color and excitement. On the other hand, the next two pictures were more shaded and do not grab my attention because they do not give the same feeling. Just as this link only shows two picture then directs you to the more specific themes, he should have just used two photos one on the right hand corner and one on the left. Besides that and not putting a list of everywhere he as been and maybe a few accomplishments he has achieved during his photography years just as this one does( Production Paradise),his first page is great. 

     The short story about his life included in the "About" section was short sweet and to the point. His story explains his influence on the photos he takes which really give great in site about who he is personally. If he added a photo that displayed his common theme it would be perfect. His flat images appear really unique and original all the while keeping a sense of dynamic emphasis.

The cropped photo illustrates the pattern rule of composition , because there are strong graphic elements of the bubbles repeating themselves. Even in the faded background you can observe the many lines coming from the Fares wheel. So therefore, the importance of cropping the photo was too extract the patterns of the bubbles by excluding how big the Fares wheel was.
